Madikwe Safari Lodge, Madikwe Game Reserve

Set in a malaria-free area in the historic North West province, near the border with Botswana, the 76 000 hectare (187 800 acre) Madikwe Game Reserve supports a diverse combination of bushveld and the semi-arid Kalahari. Madikwe is famed for Operation Phoenix, the world’s largest game translocation exercise. Established almost 20 years ago, the reserve successfully reintroduced more than 8 000 animals of 28 species, including lion, elephant and buffalo, as well as black and white rhino. This area now boasts the Super Seven, adding cheetah and the endangered African wild dog to the already famous Big Five, as well as 350 bird species.

With its earthy plastered walls, dry packed stone work and rough wooden beams, Madikwe Safari Lodge appears to grow out of the rust-red African setting like a gigantic termite mound. Kirkmans Kamp, Sabi Sand Game Reserve

Adjacent to the world renowned Kruger National Park, the Sabi Sand Game Reserve is famed for its intimate wildlife encounters, particularly leopard viewing. Home to a host of wildlife, including the Big Five, Sabi Sand is part of a conservation area that covers over two million hectares (almost five million acres), an area equivalent to the state of New Jersey and larger than some independent countries.

The moment you walk into the main building at Kirkman’s Kamp you’ll think you’ve been transported back in time. The fact that the main lawn has warthog grazing on it instead of a neatly dressed party playing croquet does nothing to dispel this illusion; in fact, it all adds to the ambiance of this 1920s South African homestead.

Lalibela Game Reserve

Lalibela Game Reserve is located in the Eastern Cape, which means it is not only malaria free, but spans 5 ecosystems, resulting in a breath-taking diversity of flora and fauna in true African safari style. Lalibela Game Reserve consists of 7,500 hectares (approximately 18,500 acres) and is home to the Big 5 (lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo & leopard).

There are currently 3 lodges at Lalibela. Whilst the standard of accommodation at Lentaba Lodge, Mark's Camp and Tree Tops are the same, each has its own unique character. At all three lodges, secluded thatched chalets are placed where magnificent indigenous gardens merge into the surrounding bush. Eagle Island Camp, Botswana

Savute Elephant Camp, Botswana

In the heart of the Chobe National Park, sometimes referred to as the elephant capital of the world, is the Savute - an area that personifies the eternal contrast of Africa. 

Savute is an objective lesson in aridity.  Rain is rare and water is precious.  You will find yourself in harmony with a unique timeless place, removed from city life.  In Savute, you realise that previous little has changed on these dry plains since time began.  The realisation dawns that you are fortunate and privileged to be in one of the last corners of the planet governed by nature.

Perched on the former banks of the now dry Savute Channel, the camp offers a spectacular birds eye view of elephant in their natural habitat, with an adjacent water hole just metres away from the camps main building, the impressions created at Savute will last forever.
